Abstract
Lumbar disc herniation is commonly caused by the degenerative disc and traumatic incidents. It is most prominent in mobile segments, such as L4-5, L5-S1, L3-4, in descending order of frequency.
Disc herniation in high lumbar spine is very rare, especially at at L1-2, Herniatioon at this is of particular importance because of the difficulty in early diagnosis due to variability of clinicla presentation, also difficulty in treatment.
It
is
usually decompressed anteriorly sine posterior decompression such as laminectomy is not feasible.
The authors experienced two cases of herniated intervertebral disc occuring at L1-2, wich needed operative treatment. Favourable results were achieved by anterior decompression and anterior interbody fusion.
